How to Make Your Candle Last Longer (And Burn Better Every Time)

A well-made candle is designed to last—but how you burn it determines how well it performs. If your candle is tunneling, burning too fast, or losing scent, the issue is often technique.

The First Burn Sets Everything

The first burn is the most important. Here are some candle care tips on how to burn your candle correctly and last longer. Allow the melt pool to reach the edges of the container. This prevents tunneling and ensures an even burn moving forward.

Trim Your Wick Every Time

Before each burn, trim your wick to about ¼ inch.

This helps:

  • Control flame height

  • Reduce soot

  • Maintain an even burn

A long wick leads to an unstable flame.

Let It Burn Long Enough

Short burn sessions don’t allow the wax to melt evenly.

For best results, burn your candle long enough to create a full melt pool.

Avoid Drafts

Air movement affects burn quality.

Keep candles away from vents, fans, and open windows to maintain a steady flame.

Know When to Stop

Stop burning when about ½ inch of wax remains.

This protects your container and keeps the burn safe.

Built for Performance

A properly made candle will perform—but only if it’s burned correctly.

Take care of it, and it will last exactly as it was designed to.
